You should also have a suitable, safe and well-ventilated workspace and prepare tools such as canvas, oil paint, palette, brushes of different sizes and models, spatula, solvents such as turpentine, and cleaning cloths.
a) Prerequisite skills
Basic drawing: The most important prerequisite is to have knowledge and skills in drawing. This skill will help you to correctly apply the lines, forms, and proportions in the initial drawing on the canvas and form the basis of the work.
b) Preparing the workspace
Proper space:
Choose an environment that has good ventilation, as some solvents produce toxic fumes.
Adequate light:
Use natural and sufficient light, preferably during the day, to properly distinguish colors.
c) Tools and supplies required
Canvas:

Oil paint:
To begin with, you can start with a set of primary colors plus white and black to familiarize yourself with color combinations.

Solvent (turpentine):
For thinning colors and cleaning brushes.
Castor oil:
Used for thinning or brightening colors.
Cloth or paper towel:
To wipe excess paint from brushes and hands.
Easel:
To hold the canvas at the right angle and increase control over the work.
Apron or work clothes:
To protect clothes from paint.
d) Canvas preparation
Gesso (surface preparation): If necessary, apply one or two layers of gesso to the canvas to prevent oil from penetrating the surface and to ensure that the paint adheres well to it.
e) Artist preparation
Warming up your hands: Before starting to paint, do simple exercises such as drawing horizontal, vertical, and curved lines and geometric shapes with a pencil on paper to activate your hands and the artistic hemisphere of your brain.
